Tools of the Trade.

Proverbs 15v2 (Msg)

'Knowledge flows like spring water from the wise. Fools are leaky faucets, dripping nonsense'.

I don’t want to be a fool, do you? God gives us sound advice and instruction which shows us how to live.

We need to get wise, we need to fill up our ‘life’s tool box’ with things that enable success in all we do. Good tools make us progress. I like this saying, ‘We have come too far to go backwards’. This is true when we are working through the process of change.

Speaking of tools… My father taught me how to change a tyre. Being a female I was not that interested but thought I had better learn this in case I need to change a tyre one day.

It may have worked but for the fact that I couldn’t even get the thingy do off the whatchama call it.!!!

Okay... Dan said it’s called a tyre spanner that you put on the wheel nuts. Well I can put the spanner on, but don’t have the strength to get the tire nuts off. I kind of knew what you had to use but not completely sure how to use it.

I was living in Perth. I owned a Mini, yes, like Mr.Bean’s but yellow, I don’t know what possessed me to buy a Mini that could not even fit the toddler’s umbrella stroller in the boot.

I had my 3 kids in the car with me and the inevitable happened... I got a flat tyre. Now you would think that a Mini being small car it would be easy to change the tyre.

I looked down at it and thought blimey... I still can’t get the thingydo off the whatchama call it.

Lord you have to get me out of this situation. I looked around and realised I had broken down right near a circus, which had come into town.

It was like the angels had gone before me. When some men saw my situation, four men came walking over to the car, one got the spare out and three others lifted the car off its little tyres and the other man changed the tyre.

The circus came to my rescue. I felt like I WAS in the circus... ha! What a sight! Three kids and myself on the sidewalk watching these strong guys lift the car like it was made of paper.

So…even though I had the right tools, I didn’t know how to use them. But God has a way of coming to our rescue.

We know what tools to use but we just have to get used to using them correctly. God will show us how.

We are to put our Bible in our tool box. We are to also put other fantastic books of instruction and wisdom in our tool box. Also put words, music, thoughts that would enhance and build our lives.

In Dan’s tool box, from his book 'How I Quit Being Angry', we have learned to replace bad tools with the good tools that work. We also need to learn a new way of living. We need to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. It starts today. It starts by getting into God’s word and into inspirational books that will help us live right.

2 Timothy 3v16 (MSG)

There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
