Securing Your Hope for the Future.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

God says He has thoughts for our future and plans for peace and not evil and gives us hope. However we often drift outside of what He wants for us, we can rely on our own perspectives and wisdom or more commonly we are impatient or find it hard to trust these words written on paper.

How can we stay on track? God gives us elders and pastors who are able to see from outside of our situations, perspectives and mindsets. So stay in the house and stay connected...

‘Grow where you’re planted’.

Submission to God given Authority.

Rebellion and lack of submission to the authority God has put over us whether it be with family, church or your boss robs us of His promise.

God has put these people in our lives and we need to be grateful for them.

No where in the bible can I find God promising us perfect leadership and authority. However He does say He puts authority over every one of us and expects us to submit to it for our own benefit. (see Romans 13:1-2)

The very vessel that you rebel against is the vessel that God has given to you, with all its failures… not perfect just as you are not perfect. All this tests our trust in God, refines our attitudes & teaches us GRACE.

I sat under imperfect leadership for 16 years in my old church but God did not allow me to leave until I had learn’t this lesson. He blessed me anyway.

God’s blessings for me are not limited by bad leadership decisions.

Parents.

Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

Deut 5:16 'Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

There is only 1 commandment of the 10 that comes with a promise. It does not say ‘honor them only if they are good to you’. The same goes for any leadership I may have over my life.

I have made it my task to honor my dad and mum over the years even though they made mistakes that affected my life. My mum has come to know the Lord and has dramatically changed simply because I chose to honor and show her respect.

God works in ways foreign to the ways we are able to perceive or consider logical.

When we look at a successful and functional family can we presume it is because the children have had a perfect mum and dad?

No!

A successful family understands the principles of forgiveness, forbearance, grace and mercy and they practice them… that makes the difference.

A Calling to Servant Hood.

I suppose the conclusion I have come to realise about my life is that…

‘it’s not all about me’

When I started to live this way I was truly set free from the past, I discovered that servant hood is a life of obedience and trust, waiting on God for direction and not running ahead of Him.

I finally realised that He is the boss whether I am obedient or not… that will never change and that is my assurance of HOPE.

He puts the vision in our hearts, He gives us plans and hopes for the future but He insists that His plan can only be done His way. If I can trust Him with this then the ‘yoke is easy’.

He is not hindered by our past or present thinking in order to bring all this into existence, He even renews our thinking along the way!

However the only thing He will not cross over is our will.

We have to trust, there is no option if we want to live in the vision He put in us.

Jesus said that we should die to ourselves and take up The Cross. If we want to follow Him, submitting to Him and His delegated authority is dying to ourselves. I have to do it, my pastor has to do it… we all do, there is no other way other than walking away from it all and saying no to God.

God's Kingdom is not a One Man Band!
